First Week Updates and Fox Friends
The 2022 Swim Team Season officially starts today! We are excited to announce that we have 136 Foxcroft Swimmers (102 Competitive Team and 34 Fish). Almost half of our team (63 swimmers) is 8 or younger. This is so exciting for our neighborhood and team, but it also brings some new challenges. We have added a coach to our Fish staff this year, and appreciate all the parental help we can get.
Fish Team: Please note Fish Team does not start until June 6. Most of the information that we communicate through these regular emails and texts are for the competitive team only. There is not a smooth way through our team management software to remove families that do not have swimmers on the competitive team. We will sometimes have Fish information listed as a separate bullet, but most communication will come from Jamie Dawson through a WhatsApp Group. Please note, social events listed in these emails (including Tuesday treats and Fun Fridays) are for the Big Team. When in doubt, please feel free to ask!
Practice: Reminder, practices from now through June 2 are Monday - Friday at the following times:
- 4:00 - 5:00 PM - 10&Under (youngest swimmers dismissed at 4:30)
- 5:00 - 6:00 PM - 11&Up
FOX Friends: Each season, we pair younger swimmers with older swimmers as a way to build encouraging relationships within our team. The older Fox Friend should take responsibility to get to know their younger friend and to cheer for them during the meets. It is customary for both to trade a small token during the meets, however our focus is on relationship building and we do not want this to be a financial burden, over-consumption of candy, or extra homework for the parents. Verbal encouragement is much more important than gift giving! Big Foxes who were able to attend the breakfast this weekend, learned who their Little Fox is, and should try to meet them this week. Here is the full Fox Friends List. Parents, if your Big Fox could not attend the meeting, please let them know who their friend is, and encourage them to read the Big Fox Document here. There is a paper they can print, fill-out and give to their little Fox as well as some suggestions for ways to connect with their Little Fox each week. Please note, these are only ideas, not requirements.
Treats:Every Tuesday after practice and every Friday following a meet, we provide food to the swimmers. A sign-up will be coming soon. Social committee members have a copy of the allergy report, but if you have any concerns, please feel free to come and check labels.
Board Members: We are thankful for all the volunteers who work throughout the year to keep summer swimming competitive and fun for our neighborhood! A list of our current board members can be found here. Any of them would love to talk to you about the Swim Team or how you can become more involved with the team and board.
Calendar of Events: All Meets and Events are listed on Swimtopia. We utilize both the built in calendar within Swimtopia to RSVP for meets and events as well as an embedded Google Calendar. You can view or subscribe to the Google Calendar here.
Ear Drops: Remember to use ear drops for your swimmers to prevent swimmer's ear. We have more information on our Resources Tab.
Swimtopia App: Now is the time to go ahead and download the Swimtopia App to your phone. There is a free or pro version. The free version will show your child’s events and your volunteer positions. The pro version will also allow you to see scores live during the meets, get alerts of when your swimmer's event is coming up, etc.
